HSL 4 is used by international Eurostar and ICE trains as well as domestic InterCity services. Initially, NS Hispeed (now NS International) planned using the newly ordered V250 for the fast Fyra train service between Brussels, Antwerp, Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Due to technical problems with the model, this plan was scrapped.
The Brussels S Train service was added in December 2015 and took over a good deal of the L trains. S Trains, and were later also introduced around other key cities like Antwerp, Liège, Gent. International (high speed) services operate to countries such as the Netherlands, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Austria and UK.

HSL 4 is used by Thalys, Eurostar e320, and Intercity Direct, as well as (on weekdays only) by local and peak hour trains terminating at Noorderkempen railway station. It was formerly used by fast internal InterCity trains ( Class 13 locomotives with I11 vehicles ) and by Fyra , both of which were replaced by the Intercity Direct services.
These trains connect the airport to Rotterdam, Breda, Antwerp, Brussels Airport, Brussels and Paris. Reservations are obligatory to board Eurostar trains. For Intercity Direct trains to Breda a supplemental fare is required for the high-speed stretch to Rotterdam.
HSL 4 runs from Antwerp to Rotterdam by meeting HSL-Zuid at the border with Netherlands. Electrification is at 3 kV DC, with the exception of the new high-speed lines, and of two recently electrified lines in the south of the country which are at 25 kV AC. Trains, contrary to tram and road traffic, run on the left.
