MS 24/MS 33 becomes Captain Gloster Drive as it heads into Gloster. The road passes through wooded areas with some development as it bypasses the center of Gloster to the southeast. MS 33 splits from MS 24 by heading to the north while MS 24 curves east to leave Gloster. The highway continues east-southeast through dense forest for several miles.
North Mississippi State Hospital (NMSH) is a 50-bed acute care mental hospital of the Mississippi Department of Mental Health located in Tupelo, Mississippi. [1] In 1995 the Mississippi State Legislature passed House Bill 960, authorizing the construction of NMSH. The groundbreaking ceremony occurred on Thursday, December 19, 1996.
The district consists of one block of North Broadway Street. In its NRHP nomination it was said to "represent a rare example of an intact late- nineteenth and early twentieth century Tupelo streetscape, in a community which saw most of its pre-1936 housing stock destroyed in a devastating tornado." After the 1910 fire and until the 1960s, the center of commerce for Wiggins developed on both sides of Pine Avenue, that sloped downhill and eastward, perpendicular to U.S. Route 49 and Railroad Street (First Street), over a distance of one city block. Small shops were built mainly of brick and were mostly contiguous to each other.
