A horn tweeter is any of the above tweeters coupled to a flared or horn structure. Horns are used for two purposes — to control dispersion, and to couple the tweeter diaphragm to the air for higher efficiency. The tweeter in either case is usually termed a compression driver and is quite different from more common types of tweeters (see above).
Horn-loaded compression drivers can achieve very high efficiencies, around 10 times the efficiency of direct-radiating cone loudspeakers. They are used as midrange and tweeter drivers in high power sound reinforcement loudspeakers , and in reflex or folded-horn loudspeakers in megaphones and public address systems .
Leslie-Tyfon horns became the standard on most American railroads. [5] Leslie's horns were the most popular locomotive horns, and the standard for GM Electro-Motive Division models. Later, Leslie introduced the Type S Supertyfon, with three- and five-chime versions. The three-chime S3L was B, D#, A. Leslie sold more horns than competitor Nathan ...
A horn loudspeaker is a loudspeaker or loudspeaker element which uses an acoustic horn to increase the overall efficiency of the driving element(s). A common form (right) consists of a compression driver which produces sound waves with a small metal diaphragm vibrated by an electromagnet, attached to a horn, a flaring duct to conduct the sound waves to the open air.
The P-series horns have longer bells and a heavier manifold than the M-series. [3] The name of the horn is a P followed by the bells that face forward, followed by R if any are reversed, and then the numbers of the reversed bells; a P12345 is a true five-chime horn with all bells facing forward, while P135R24 has bells 2 and 4 reversed. [9]
The Air Motion Transformer (AMT) is a type of electroacoustic transducer.Invented by Oskar Heil (1908–1994), it operates on a different transduction principle from other loudspeaker designs, such as moving coil, planar magnetic or electrostatically-driven loudspeakers, and should not be confused with planar or true ribbon loudspeakers.
