Menard, Inc., doing business as Menards, (/ m ə ˈ n ɑːr d z / mə-NARDZ) is an American big-box home improvement retail chain headquartered in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.It is the third-largest home improvement retailer in the United States (behind Lowe's and The Home Depot), with 351 stores in 15 U.S. states, primarily in the Midwest. John Menard Jr. John Robert Menard Jr. (born January 22, 1940) is an American billionaire businessman, and the founder and owner of Menards, a Midwestern chain of home improvement stores. He is a former INDYCAR racing team owner, and the father of former NASCAR Cup Series driver Paul Menard. He is the son of John Robert Menard Sr (1917–1988).
His career with Menards began in 1976, where he was a fixture of the ads until his retirement in 1998. He did, however, make occasional ads with the company starting in 1999, such as Embers America. Szmanda also appeared in the 1970s science fiction movie The Alpha Incident and hosted the Wausau version of High Quiz Bowl.
