The Olmsted–Beil House is a large farm and modest Dutch farmhouse at 4515 Hylan Boulevard (near Woods of Arden Road) in the South Shore of Staten Island, New York City. The house was purchased by Frederick Law Olmsted 's father and given to Olmsted in 1848 to grow crops, plant trees and clear for pasture for livestock.
As an integral artery of Staten Island, Hylan Boulevard is a commercial corridor and a heavily trafficked roadway. At the northernmost end is Buono Beach, a small park with views of New York Harbor, as well as the Alice Austen House (address: 2 Hylan Blvd.), the historical home of native Island photographer Alice Austen and one of the few remaining Dutch Colonial structures on the Island.
The neighborhood is served by the Old Town station of the Staten Island Railway. Old Town is also served by the S78 and S79 SBS local buses on Hylan Boulevard and the S74, S84, S76 and S86 local buses on Richmond Road. Express bus service is provided by the SIM1 and SIM5 on Hylan Boulevard and the SIM15 on Richmond Road. [2]
