Funny you mention that, I used a brand new Rapala Shadow Rap last night and had multiple hooks bent after just a couple medium sized bass. I’m thinking I may need to change them out. Same thing happened to me. The first fish almost straighten out the hook. Evidently this Lefebre guy likes the light wire hooks. Myself, not so much.
RE: Rapalas for Steelheading Friday, September 05, 2008 9:52 AM ( permalink ) A size 3 rainbow colored Rapala has been effective for me in the streams. I caught my largest steelhead on it. I gave it a brief try in the lake once, but castability is an issue so I stick with the Cleo and KO Wobblers there. #15.
I find it interesting that the folks at Berkley have the time and resources to provide a free dive curve on the package of every single flicker shad, yet Rapala offers nothing but a very general depth range for their lures, even on their website. I would purchase more raps if it didn’t require a $50 app purchase to get this info.
You really can't go wrong with any of Rapala's lures. I've caught bass on all of them at one point or another. Good model numbers to start with are F7, F9, J7, J9, SR5, SR7, SSR5, and SSR7. Those are all model numbers for shad raps and floating minnows.

October 19, 2024 at 5:05 pm #2294811. Ive had so many Shadow Raps break on me I emailed Rapala. Their response “they are designed for bass which have soft lips, not walleye.” *Im talking trebles here*. Funny how they are sold in walleye aisles. Bearcat89. North branch, mn. Posts: 19823.

March 30, 2011 at 2:55 pm #952183. Quote: I’ve recently been running into issues with the clackin’ minnows and x raps bills breaking off. I looked last night and I have 2 clackin minnows, four x-raps and four DT’s with broken bills. The clackin’ minnows were cast a total of ten times or less. Very annoying at $16 a pop.
Status: offline. Re:Rapala Scatter Rap Minnow (My personal review.) Saturday, May 11, 2013 10:17 AM (permalink) Ended up getting the lure back last Monday which was a far cry from 4-6 weeks. Same one no letter or anything no questions cost me about total $10 for the $8.99 which meh I'm not upset about.
I used to be a ” Match the color of local bait fish. ” Then I ran out of the green colored lures. I bought some white & black 1.5″ long rubber twister tails as a last stand. They BOTH worked better than the green smallest Rapalas on the perch and all other fish. WHAAATT I now have a dedicated rod set up with them.
