Sturgeon Bay is an arm of Green Bay extending southeastward approximately 10 miles into the Door Peninsula at the city of Sturgeon Bay, located approximately halfway up the Door Peninsula. [1] The bay is connected to Lake Michigan by the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal. The Potawatomi name for Sturgeon Bay is "Na-ma-we-qui-tong". [2]
Wisconsin became the first state to have a state park in 1878 [1] when it formed "The State Park". The park consisted of 760 square miles (2,000 km 2) in northern Wisconsin (most of present-day Vilas County). [2] The state owned 50,631 acres (205 km 2), which was less than 10% of the total area. [2] There were few residents in the area.
Lost Dauphin State Park is a state park in Brown County, Wisconsin. It is located on the land that Lost Dauphin claimant Eleazer Williams lived in the mid-19th-century. The park became a state park in 1947. [1] It was removed from the list of state parks but the land remains state-owned. [2]
