A semblance of the present day Bar Council was established vide Advocates & Solicitors Enactment 1914 (FMS No. 22/1914) covering the legal practitioners in the Federated Malay States. The first annual meeting of the Federated Malay States Bar was held at Kuala Lumpur, representatives of the profession being present from Selangor and Perak.

Tommy Thomas (born 3 September 1952) is a Malaysian barrister and the former Attorney General of Malaysia from 2018 to 2020. [1] [2] [3] He was the first practising barrister to be appointed directly from the Malaysian Bar to be the Attorney General, [4] and the first non-Malay and non-Muslim Malaysian to hold this post after the formation of Malaysia in 1963.
