The 21st Infantry Regiment ("Gimlet" [1]) is a United States Army infantry regiment. The 1st Battalion currently exists as part of 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. The regiment fought in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, as well as Operation Iraqi Freedom.
On 28 July 2000, 68th Chemical Company, the division's smoke, reconnaissance, and decontamination forces, became part of the battalion. The 1st Battalion, 21st Field Artillery completed the Army's first deployment of a divisional command and attack battalion, Operation Desert Strike 01–07, an external evaluation at Fort Bliss, New Mexico, in April 2001.

This regiment was organized at Philadelphia and mustered into federal service on April 29, 1861. [1] This regiment was the outgrowth of a rifle battalion attached to the 1st brigade, 1st division of the Pennsylvania militia. On May 20 it was ordered to Suffolk Park; on the 28th to Chambersburg, where it became part of Patterson's army.
