[ 1 ] [ 3 ] The Latin name bulbiferum of this species, meaning "bearing bulbs", refers to the secondary bulbs on the stem of the nominal subspecies.

For hypogeal lilies, the first stage of germination takes place entirely underground, where the bulb is created.
