I've got the same issue about setting up google to default. However, the version of my Windows is 11 pro. Is there any other solution for this problem? The normal process of setting up a new search engine doesn't work as the specific box is constantly grayed-out with Bing URL and can't be modified. Many thanks,
The standard instructions you mentioned, indeed, they not work. The most you can do is to change between Bing, Google, DuckDuckGo and Yandex. I have a list of 11 search engines in my Configuration menu and cannot make the 8th one as default.

At the top right of Edge, click the 3 dots and open Edge Settings. In the search box on the left, type search. On the right, scroll dons to find 'Manage Search Engines' and open that.
