Guest. Nov 18, 2014. #1. Some years ago, I bought a product called Nitromors WOODSTAIN REMOVER which the label says "is ideal for overstained wood". It's a gel type product. I have a pine door that is stained too dark so I tested the woodstain remover on a section and it's done a good job in removing enough of the stain to create a nicer colour.

Hi Millie, Iagree with Jason, dip and strip does tend to cause all kinds of problems with panel doors such as warping, splitting and failed joints. You need to establish if the finish is a stain or (more probably) a varnish that holds a stain. Experiment in an inconspicuous space with some Nitromors varnish remover and some wire wool.

I've lifted my very old carpets from the stairs. I was hoping to clean them up and leave the wood exposed on the treads. (and perhaps wallpaper the risers). I've scraped off paint and possibly filla, but in some places it has left stains. I don't know how to remove these stains. I've put a picture below of one particular bad tread.

If you want to stain the wood buy a tin of Colron light oak stain and thin this 50% with white spirit, apply by brush and wipe all over with a rag. Next choice would be to either use shellac sanding sealer. or simply just apply wax with 0000 wire wool and the wax you use must be Briwax Antique Brown, don't worry about the brown as it's not that ...

Guest. Jun 21, 2005. #4. I have removed fence paint from concrete (tiles and path) with nearly neat fairy liquid. You have to make it wey, scrub with nearly neat FL and rinse. You have to do this a few times, wetter the better. Not guaranteed. Obviously works better on the cheap stuff.

Super Member. Aug 26, 2020. #12. Test on two pieces of pine, one sealed with shellac and one not sealed, tip is to let the shellac dry overnight then rob down in the direction of the grain using 0000 wire wool. The unsealed pine will absorb more stain than the sealed piece and therefore will be a darker shade.

    community.screwfix.com/threads/removing-dark-wood-stain-from-door-frame.227419

We have recently purchased new solid oak doors. The house previously had dark coloured doors and all the door frames and skirtings are dark. Is there anyway of lightening the wood or should I paint them all white. The new door is still to be stained and I was thinking a light oak colour. Any advice would be appreciated.

    1. Used the paint stripper all over the table top and left for 1 hour. This was despite most of the varnish being removed, i just wanted to get a uniform finish. 2. Removed stripper after 1 hour. Finish now uniform (more or less). However now too light. 3. Applied 2 coats of Coloron Wood Dye (Deep Mahogany).
