Thanks to u/Bolbor_ 's suggestion for improving Hydra kills with melee. Note this kill was on the luckier side as I skipped flame phase. I usually skip it 20% of the time with this method. My average kill time was around 2:00-2:20. Edit: Typo for credit to suggestion. Tip: drag the green phase onto the green vent between attack ticks.
Theoretically you dont need food for hydra. In practise that all comes down to your concentration levels when having to count to 3 for hours on end. Edit: made paragraphs for my bois. Keep your health above 0 while attacking the hydra until it's health reaches 0. I found ranged easier to learn hydra.

I average 11 kills a trip, and my pb is 1:27. Using Thrall summoning, Tbow til last phase, Max strength switch with claws and vengeance. Thralls + veng helps, also kill the previous hydra when the last vent squirts so hydra gets insta-lowered next kill assuming you start it in the right spot. Vent skip, flame skip. Thralls and venge last phase.
Lance vs Bowfa at Hydra. Been using lance at hydra since BP nerf, i like it but ive never used Bofa and dont have one. My kill times are in the 2:00-2:15 range regularly with a 1:51 PB and a +13 pray bonus. Bowfa would come out at +21 or +25 pray bonus depending on Avas vs Range cape (t), but im not sure what the kill times would be.
Melee uses a lot less supplies but I died quite often, like every 10-20 kills because of running into flames when transitioning into the final phase. I have been Ranging Hydra with my bofa for a while (eagle eye, don't have rigour), but I just hit 99 ranged. With my melee stats being 87/96/91….
Initial comparison: Melee has +20/22 prayer, range has +18 prayer. Close enough to being identical. There's < 2s gain switching to pegs and suffering at the cost of 11 prayer bonus, which unless you're an absolute monster at flicking we'll just assume is not worth it.
