Breese is a city in Clinton County, Illinois, United States. Breese is the most populous city completely within Clinton County. As of the 2020 census, the population was 4,641, the majority of whom are of German ancestry. [4] Breese is part of the Metro-East region of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area.
In 1805, prior to the establishment of the county, the territorial government established a post road from its capital (Vincennes, Indiana) to St. Louis, Missouri, passing through the county. [4] In 1808 a wagon road was laid out through the future Clinton County.
As of the 2020 census [9] there were 459 people, 207 households, and 159 families residing in the village. The population density was 776.65 inhabitants per square mile (299.87/km 2).
