Ted Walsh (born 14 April 1950) [1] is an Irish amateur jockey turned racehorse trainer who was born and raised in County Cork but based in Kill, County Kildare, Ireland. Ted is also father to amateur Irish National Hunt jockey, Katie Walsh and professional national hunt jockey Ruby Walsh .
The cloth pattern takes its name from Tattersall's horse market, which was started in London in 1766. [2] During the 18th century at Tattersall's horse market blankets with this checked pattern were sold for use on horses. [1] Today tattersall is a common pattern, often woven in cotton, particularly in flannel, used for shirts or waistcoats.
In 1976, the Irish Draught Horse Society was founded to preserve the breed, [9] with an external branch in Great Britain emerging in 1979. A horse board, Bord na gCapall, was also founded in 1976 (later resurrected as the Irish Horse Board in 1993), in order to promote the breeding and use of horses other than Thoroughbreds in the country. [2]
