The station first signed on the air on September 17, 1948, as WENR-TV. [1] It was the third television station to sign on in the Chicago market behind WGN-TV (channel 9), which debuted six months earlier in April, and WBKB (channel 4), which changed from an experimental station to a commercial operation in September 1946.

The Tonight Show is an American late-night talk show that has been broadcast on NBC since 1954. The program has been hosted by six comedians: Steve Allen (1954–1957), Jack Paar (1957–1962), Johnny Carson (1962–1992), Jay Leno (1992–2009 and 2010–2014), Conan O'Brien (2009–2010), and Jimmy Fallon (2014–present).
The schedule is followed by a list per network of returning series, new series, and series canceled after the 1995–96 season. PBS is not included; member stations have local flexibility over most of their schedules and broadcast times for network shows may vary.
