A penalty points system has been in operation since 2002 for regulatory offences relating to driving licences in the Republic of Ireland. [1] More serious driving offences are not included in the penalty points system but result in automatic driving bans or imprisonment. [2]
From 19 January 2013, new licences issued are similar in size and shape to a credit-card (85.6 × 53.98 mm) as stipulated in Directive 2006/126/EEC.
