State achievement tests in the United States are standardized tests required in American public schools in order for the schools to receive federal funding, according to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, in US Public Law 107-110, and the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
The test was replaced in the 2014–15 school year by the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress, or M-STEP. The tests have high content validity with respect to the subject specific curriculum for the particular grade level in the State of Michigan. The participation at MEAP testing sessions is mandatory for all public school students.

Districts are graded based on a system of 26 indicators.
