In the 2014/2015 season the University of Scranton folded their hockey program bringing the current number of members to 6. Also in 2014/2015 Drexel won its fifth ECHA tournament championship 10–3 against Towson, while Villanova won the regular season title.
In addition to its NCAA Division I teams, Drexel University is home to 33 active club teams including men's ice hockey, lacrosse, water polo, squash, triathlon, and cycling. Other club teams include soccer, baseball, rugby, field hockey, and roller hockey.
Four previous SECHL members (Rutgers University [note 1], Drexel University, Stony Brook University, and New York University) have moved their programs to the ACHA Division I level. The league is very selective in accepting members and is made up of universities that recognize the importance of ice hockey.
