Dave can help you there. If nothing else, my 263 crank bearings were well within clearances. Replacing the rod bearing with new bearings will take up what little wear on the crank. Of course, measure JIC . I ended up rebuilding my 263, as s/n wise it was a '53' engine - last of the straight 8's. .
I have the repair manual for the 8-98 but the book has very little detail on the engine assembly and torque specs. Is there a book on the Auburn 8-98, 8-105 or any of the Lycoming straight 8 engines that shows pictures and provides assembly detail and torque specs on the engine?

Not sure if the internal Specs for the "IND" straight 8 engine are the same as they are for the "C" straight 8 engine in terms of bore, stroke, etc. I know from past experience that the Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth flat six manufactured in the US has a different bore,stroke and block length from the "IND" and Canadian Chrysler brands flat six.
What experiences exist for engine stand use with a Buick straight 8, specifically the big 320?
