Well, the Cuisinart IS a very good-looking mixer, and happily, Cuisinart has wisely refrained from modifying the excellent tool design of the original Kenwood (the wire whip is the best design out there). Good luck and keep us posted on how your friends fare with it. I would be delighted to hear that its performance has pleased its recipient. Bob
There are many things wrong with this mixer. First the front door that guards the attachments kept popping open - new right out of the box with the mixer in use. Very annoying. Looking past that I continued to try it out. Look VERY closely at the video reviews. This mixer says 7 quart, but the hook & paddle go WAY under the lip of the bowl.
Warning: DO NOT BUY THE KITCHEN AID STAND MIXER IF YOU PLAN ON MAKING BREAD DOUGH WITH IT. The bowl is NOT engineered to stay on the base with the force of kneading bread dough, even with less than 6 cups of flour. It bangs around and then flies off. It has gotten worse and worse until now it won't even stay on to mix liquids!
It died a very early death. Unfortuntally we were renovating and our tried and true orginial mixer was literally buried along with the new KA box so I just recently sent the KA back to Surlatable. Then this morning on the Today show Jack Bishop from American's Test Kitchen was on and he recommended the Cuisinart 5.5 qt stand mixer SM55-BC for $299.

They send them out all the time. I got my 325W KA Artisan mixer at BB&B last week for $216 plus tax. Of, if you don't have a BB&B nearby, brand new ones go on eBay for something like $190 plus $35 - 40 shipping. Also, FWIW, I initially bought a Pro series KA mixer at Sam's. It was slightly cheaper than the Artisan mixer price at Target or BB&B.
You could try calling the Gourmet Depot (1-800-424-6783) to find out. The company handles accessories for both KitchenAid and Cuisinart stand mixers.
KitchenAid does seem to be licensing out there name on all sorts of cheaper goods, hopefully they won't cheapen that Pro mixer too much. I'm still hanging on to my old Cuisinart made in France in the 1970s, I've tossed quite a number of other newer Cuisinart appliances since then.
I have a couple of Kitchenaid Stand Mixers and I like them both. One is a Pro Series 6-quart and one is an Artisan Series 5-Quart. White I like both of these mixers, I tend to prefer the Artisan because I find the bowl easier to scrape down given the tilt-back head on the Artisan. I also have a Viking 7 Quart mixer.
New to the site. I recently picked up a Delonghi DSM800 stand mixer at a garage sale. It had all the basic accessories (whips). I have been collecting the attachments (have most of them), however they are now hard to find. A couple seem very difficult to find as most have been discontinued.
