A plan to introduce a postcode system, was first announced on June 6, 2005. [2] This was to assist the Postal Corporation of Jamaica's international partners in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada to sort letters bound for Jamaica, which ended up in Japan or Jamaica in Long Island in the US. Jamaica currently has no national postal code system, except for Kingston and Lower St. Andrew, which are divided into postal districts numbered 1-20 [14] Before the 2007 suspension, the first two letters of a national post code were always 'JM' (for Jamaica) while the third was for one of the four zones (A-D) into which the island was divided.
