An outline, also called a hierarchical outline, is a list arranged to show hierarchical relationships and is a type of tree structure. An outline is used [1] to present the main points (in sentences) or topics of a given subject. Each item in an outline may be divided into additional sub-items.
The lead section may contain optional elements presented in the following order: short description, disambiguation links (dablinks/hatnotes), maintenance tags, infoboxes, special character warning box, images, navigational boxes (navigational templates), introductory text, and table of contents, moving to the heading of the first section.
"Outline" is short for "hierarchical outline", which is a hierarchically-structured list about the subject of the list. One-sentence paragraphs can be emphatic, and should be used sparingly. Some paragraphs are really tables or lists in disguise. They should be rewritten as prose or converted to their ...
In fiction writing, a plot outline gives a list of scenes. Scenes include events, character(s) and setting. Plot, therefore, shows the cause and effect of these things put together. The plot outline is a rough sketch of this cause and effect made by the scenes to lay out a "solid backbone and structure" to show why and how things happened as ...
[1] [2]: 261f [3] The abbreviated term can be spelled in these two ways, but also in ways that join the words in these compound expressions (e.g., nutgraph). [4] In the case of a two-paragraph extended lede, the nut graph follows those two, as needed; hence, the nut graph is generally the second or third paragraph following a journalistic lede.
