Magic resistance is a really powerful effect, but it's not the sort of thing that is necessarily too strong for player races to have. The Musicus race guide puts Cunning, which is exactly half Magic Resistance, at 2 points. We can extrapolate from that that Magic Resistance should be worth 4 points.

  3. What are the most and least-resisted damage types?

    rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/103213

\$\begingroup\$ @guildsbounty: I found a reddit post by /u/miss_permafrost from August 2020 that lists the number of monsters with a resistance, immunity, or vulnerability to each damage type across "the big three" monster books (MM, VGtM, and MToF), 3 setting books (GGtR, E:RftLW, and EGtW), and various adventure books.

  4. Resistance is a game term which means that a creature takes half damage from a specific source. From the Player's Handbook (pg. 197) If a creature or an object has resistance to a damage type, damage of that type is halved against it. If a creature or an object has vulnerability to a damage type, damage of that type is doubled against it.

  5. Damage reduction and damage resistance: how to calculate?

    rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/91250

Assume a character has both damage reduction and damage resistance vs an incoming attack. One example of damage reduction is the Heavy Armor Master feat: While you are wearing heavy armor, bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage that you take from non magical weapons is reduced by 3. One example of damage resistance is the blade ward cantrip:

  6. At 18th level, you gain immunity to fire damage. In addition, any spell or effect you create ignores resistance to fire damage and treats immunity to fire damage as resistance to fire damage. Other options. There is the Elemental Bane spell. But that only covers resistance, requires a save and is concentration. Not a good option.

  7. "Resistance and then vulnerability are applied after all other modifiers to damage." So you have a tiefling with fire resistance, but a curse or effect that gives fire vulnerability. Now you take 25 incoming fire damage. This is first halved from resistance 25/2=12.5 rounded down to 12 and doubled back to 24 for the vulnerability.

While wearing or carrying an object inscribed with this rune, you have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, and you have resistance against poison damage. In addition, you can invoke the rune as a bonus action, gaining resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage for 1 minute. Once you invoke the rune, you can’t do ...

  10. There are the more common effects: Damage Vulnerability, Damage Immunity, and Damage Resistance, as well as damage-reducing effects when a creature succeeds on a saving throw caused by certain spells, like fireball. However, there are also Damage Thresholds, and sometimes a static reduction in damage as outlined by the Heavy Armor Master feat ...

  11. If a creature has damage resistance, and is dealt an odd amount of damage, do you round the final damage up or down? The Player's Handbook, annoyingly, only gives the example of 20 ÷ 2 = 10. If it had been 21 ÷ 2, would that round to 10 or 11? If the creature is dealt 1, does that round to 0 or 1?
