The 153 cu in engine had a 3 + 7 ⁄ 8-inch (98 mm) bore and 3 + 1 ⁄ 4-inch (82.6 mm) stroke, with two overhead valves per cylinder actuated by pushrods and a 1-3-4-2 firing order.

It is an updated version of the Family 0 engine and features TwinPort technology – twin intake ports with a choke closing one of the ports at low RPM, providing strong air swirl pattern for higher torque levels and better fuel economy.
