Hartford City sports leagues include baseball, softball, soccer, and football. Indiana is known for its high school basketball, and Hartford City high schools have had their share of success in the state basketball tournament. Hartford City High School won 14 sectional and 3 regional tournaments in about 60 years of action.
The school is located a few miles north of Hartford City, near the center of the county. The school was designed for 1,200 students, and initial enrollment totaled to 1,150 students, serving grades 9 through 12. [130] Current high school enrollment is less than 650. In its peak years, Hartford was a point on the stagecoach route from Madison to Aurora. A post office was established at Hartford in 1844, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1891. [4]
