It was founded in 2000, when Chocowinity High School and Aurora High School were consolidated into one school. Chocowinity Middle School and Aurora Middle school serve as feeder schools to Southside. There are approximately 500 students attending Southside, which houses grades 9–12 on a 4 block schedule.

The school, originally named Mountain Youth Center, was an alternative school for those needing extra assistance in education. In 2017, the school relocated to the former Marble Elementary building and was re-established as The Oaks Academy. In 2023, The Oaks Academy moved to the Cherokee County Schools of Innovation in Peachtree.

South side school. South Side High School was a public high school located in Memphis, Tennessee and was part of the Memphis City Schools system. In 2007 its location became the home of a specialized school, the South Side Health Career Academy. [1] It was designed by Charles O. Pfeil and George Awsumb.
