Regarding the process of character creation, Akutami claimed that they must fall within the canons of shōnen manga in order to capture the attention of readers. Jok Church's character, Beakman, also has blue hair, which is a throwback reference, according to the creator, to an older version of Superman, who also had a blue tint to his hair. [38] A similar case of bluish black hair can also be seen in Batman (Bruce Wayne) in his older comics.
In the end, GameRant believes Yuji did not stand out as a main character as Gojo often overshadowed him while Yuta Okkotsu had a more notable in character arc, making the protagonists in general to be overshadowed by the side characters. [39] Yuji was the number one fan-favorite Jujutsu Kaisen character on MyAnimeList (MAL) as of June 2021. [40]
