Crown Royal, originally known as Seagram's Crown Royal, is a blended Canadian whisky brand created by Seagram and owned by Diageo since 2000. [1] Production of Crown Royal is done at Gimli , Manitoba , while the blending and bottling of the whisky are done in a facility in Amherstburg , Ontario .
The three most popular Seagram distilled products in the 1960s through 1990s were Seven Crown, VO, and Crown Royal. [3] In 1963, Seagram purchased the Texas Pacific Coal and Oil Company for $61 million in cash and a $216 million production payment sale to Glanville Minerals Corporation of New York.
Stitzel–Weller Distillery is a former distillery located in Shively, a suburb of Louisville, Kentucky.It was founded in 1935, sold in 1972, and closed in 1992. [1] It produced a number of notable brands, and since 2014 it has served as a public tourism site for Bulleit Bourbon, as part of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

Seven Crown was popular in the 1970s, but saw a decrease in success along with most whiskeys in the 1980s and 1990s when many consumers left for vodka and rum. The brand sold thirty-two million cases in 1970, but only eight million in 1993. It was the first brand to produce and sell 100 million cases, and sold 300 million by 1983. [2]
