When Farquaad offers Shrek a deal to return him his swamp if he agrees to go on the quest, Shrek agrees, and Donkey follows Shrek on his quest to find Fiona. To some extent, Donkey tempers Shrek’s grumpiness. Either way, it’s always hilarious and heartwarming to see how the two strike a loyal friendship that survives the ups and downs in Land Far Away.
