Gracias Por La Música is a Spanish-language album by Swedish pop group ABBA, released in Spain on 5 April 1980 and Latin America on May 10.. The album was originally released due to the unexpected surge in popularity for the group in Latin American countries such as Mexico and Argentina after the release of the Spanish-language versions of "Chiquitita" and "I Have a Dream" in 1979.
Spanish versions: The original 1992 release had a slightly different track listing, replacing the English versions of "Chiquitita" and "Fernando" with the Spanish language versions. Shortly after the release of Gold: Greatest Hits, a Spanish version of the album, titled Oro: Grandes Exitos, was issued, followed later by Mas Oro: Mas ABBA Exitos.
The single reportedly charted in the top 5 in Argentina and was included on the South American versions of the Super Trouper album. [5] It was first released on CD as part of the 1994 Polydor US compilation Más ABBA Oro, and in 1999 on the expanded re-release of ABBA Oro: Grandes Éxitos.
The song was first released on the album Super Trouper, with the Spanish version included on later reissues of the album, as well as the 1999 reissue of the compilation Oro: Grandes Éxitos. The ABBA tribute choir Andante Andante, founded by Allison Pyke in 2004, takes its name from this song. [2]
The title and rhythm of the song made it an obvious choice for inclusion on ABBA's Spanish album, Gracias Por La Música. The lyrics were translated into Spanish by Mary McCluskey and recorded at Polar Music Studio on 3 January 1980. The song was released as a promotional single in Spain.
It also contains the Spanish version of "Fernando", which was the first time this version was released in the UK. [2] The album peaked at No. 17 on the UK Albums Chart, breaking ABBA's run of eight consecutive UK number-one albums from Greatest Hits in 1976 to The Singles: The First Ten Years in 1982. [3]
