Just my $.02, but the internet is full of people talking about 7-8 lb scoped 'long range rigs', but a magnum rifle with a little weight is going to be a better tool at the moment of truth.
Oct 13, 2013. #4. An 11 pound 300 win mag wouldn't be much different than a 8 lb 7 rem mag. You can compare recoil here: Recoil Calculator. 23-24 ft/lb of recoil was what I got with the heaviest bullets for the 300 win mag. That kind of recoil wouldn't phase many of the shooters here. Depends on your recoil tolerance.
Dakota del norte. Dec 21, 2014. #2. The 300win burns slightly more powder on average than the 300wsm, so the recoil will be a touch higher, but I doubt you will notice the difference in rifles of equal weight. My 300rum, on the other hand, will flat get your attention.

In my experience I have found they offer a good reduction in recoil-but no where near as effective as a brake like American precision arms. with that being said - I would grab the suppressor every time over a muzzle Brake!!!
Back in the days of the .300 Win Mag's popularity in long range matches, folks shooting the best scores got about 1000 rounds of accurate life before it got bad enough to be noticed. They would start out shooting under 3/4 MOA at 1000 but by then the shots started to miss calls a bit more. Mayby 1/4 MOA or a bit more.

Go to the Nosler 125 Accubond or one of the lighter Barns TSX bullets and you can run them much faster and still have relatively light recoil. I have a friend that runs the Barns 130s full throttle in his 300 WM for deer and it is a awesome flat shooting deer killing light recoiling load. 1. 2. Next.
Orig. owner had the stock all screwed up. Even with the decelerator recoil pad (too soft) it jammed the point of the butt (top) into the shoulder. Step one: Installed a "grind to fit" Limbsaver recoil pad. Left the rear at original width an tapered the sides to the width of the butt (1 masking tape thickness).
First thing I did was put a Muzzle Break on my 300. I don't have have to prove my machoness by bruising my shoulder. It is just far more enjoyable to shoot when it doesn't hurt. Muzzle Break + Limbsaver recoil pad = painless magnum. Even pushing 220s. So then the question is, hunting.
