Robert Moses State Park - Long Island is a 875-acre (3.54 km 2) state park in southern Suffolk County, New York. [3] The park lies on the western end of Fire Island, one of the central barrier islands off the southern coast of Long Island, and is known for its five-mile (8.0 km) stretch of beaches on the Atlantic Ocean.
The largest parks in New York are the Adirondack Park, at six million acres (24,000 km 2; 9,400 sq mi); and the Catskill Park, at 700,000 acres (2,800 km 2; 1,100 sq mi). Together they comprise the New York Forest Preserve, properties that must be kept "Forever Wild" according to Article 14 of the New York Constitution.
Camp Hero State Park was opened on September 18, 2002. There are plans to create a museum and an interpretive center that will focus on World War II and Cold War history inside the radar tower. [ 3 ] Some parts of the camp remained closed off and guarded, especially the areas near the old radar installations.
