  2. Plaster of Paris Toilet Base - Love Plumbing & Remodel

    terrylove.com/forums/index.php?threads/plaster-of-paris-toilet-base-who-uses...

Plaster of paris seemed an odd choice of material, as well, but that is the term every guy has used, along with the somewhat-archaic concept of "setting" a toilet. Anyway, is there anywhere else in the East, the West, the Mountains or the Central States where this method is popular?

Location. Long Island, NY. Dec 23, 2008. #7. the plumber that set the toilet upstairs actually dumped plaster of Paris on the finished tile floor, then set the toilet on top of the plaster. I still had to caulk around it anyway. He said its the best way to set a toilet, and that's the old fashion way to do it.

  4. How do you remove a toilet set in plaster of paris?

    terrylove.com/.../how-do-you-remove-a-toilet-set-in-plaster-of-paris.48336

Setting a toilet in plaster of Paris is a really handyman piece of work. Given that, I would be suspect of other problems once you get the toilet off and the flange exposed. There are basically two reasons a wax ring can leak. One, if the toilet rocks and moves. That' not going to be the case the way the toilet was set in plaster.

  5. Mounting a Toilet: Grout, plaster, or putty?

From what I read plaster of paris works well but is a little old fashioned. I think it may be easier to remove from the tile later though. I'm pretty sure plumber's putty would be easiest to remove but is my last choice. It just doesn't look that good and I don't think it will stabilize the toilet base as much as grout or plaster.

Mortar is more porous than typical grount. It depends on the type you use. A medium bed mortar has more sand in it than a thinset mortar. A modified mortar is more flexible than a dryset mortar. An unsanded grout cannot be installed if the gap exceeds 1/8", but a typical sanded grout can be used in quite large gaps.

Texas. Aug 15, 2008. #1. I have only recently heard about this and am confused about a couple of things. I am installing a fiberglass tub for a neighbor and when you look at the bottom it has a large piece of what I call Chip board (chips of wood glued and pressed together) and the legs are 4 x 4 wood. When I've stood in the tub, there is no ...

If you still cant sleep, butter the bottom with plaster of paris to fill the voids and in a half hour you can turn it over. Mortar shrinks when it sets, unless you do a very dry mix with almost no slump. That is worth thinking about.

  11. Shower Pan squeaks | Terry Love Plumbing Advice & Remodel DIY ...

    terrylove.com/forums/index.php?threads/shower-pan-squeaks.39250

Nov 29, 2010. #1. Just bought a house that has a EJM shower pan installed. No leaks but the problem is that when you stand in it or move around it squeaks and makes all sort of noise. My solution was to spray expanding foam (minimal) under the pan. I can get to three of the sides of the pan but not the face of the pan.
