A boarding passes are not "sold, " and there is no way to tell how many people want the "best" boarding passes unitil 35 hours and 59 minutes before departure time. Why, because A List and Early bird owners can keep showing up (buying tickets or Early bird) until before 36 hours before departure time.
As a fairly frequent flyer since 2010, I've earned a companion pass a few times. Currently, the companion is given a boarding position relative to their status or purchase (A-List or EarlyBird Check-In). My boarding position is typically between A15 and A30 while my companion (a non A-List member) is between B30 and C30.

I used to be able to check in and have my boarding pass avaiable in my apple wallet. Now when I go to view it I am given the meesage "Please visit kiosk or ticket counter for your boarding pass".. I have never had issues in the past until a couple of months agao. I have the Iphone X and its updated to most recent IOS.

I just used one of the annual 4 upgraded boarding credits I get on my CC and she boarded like A-3. (We are not a seat savers, "be part of the solution NOT part of the problem" is my motto.) SWA agent could not provide any reasoning why the sequential boarding #'s did not happen. On the Return flight, we got a sequential boarding #'s.
