Don't know how you might define "best", but the Buffalo Bore 180 HVR mentions is the most powerful factory or handloaded ammo I can recall ever using in a .357 revolver. It actually does the advertised 1400 FPS in my 4" revolvers, and in a 5.5"Ruger Bisley 1514 FPS, believe it or not. So if your "best" is defined as some combination of velocity ...

Posts: 44. Liberty Civil Defense 357 Magnum. I'm a big fan of the Liberty 9mm ammo. Every time I shoot it and read about it, I like it more. I was very surprised, though, by the new 357 magnum offering. The 9mm is 50 grains and 2,000 fps. The 357 is 50 grains and 2,100 fps. Makes sense they'd use the same projectile since the caliber is ...

Quote: If you purchased a model H006M it is chambered for the .357 Magnum. cartridge. The .38 Special cartridge can also be fired in this model. That is from the Henry owner's Manual - since it is safe to fire 38 Special, shooting 357 handgun ammo should work fine. November 7, 2011, 11:52 PM. # 5.

  6. 9mm vs. .357 magnum-Myth Busted - The Firing Line Forums

    thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=590820

Yeah, just no way even a +P+ 9mm compares to a hot .357 magnum from a 4" or longer barrel. It's a great cartridge, but so is the 9mm, and of course the 9mm has many advantages without turning this into a semi auto vs revolver thread. With comparable bullet weights, the 357 is capable of more velocity.

  7. Best .357 Magnum Ammo for Self Defense? - The Firing Line

The Remington Golden Saber 125gr JHP, the Federal 125gr JHP, the MagSafe .357magnum load, Glaser Silver Safety Slug, Buffalo Bore .357magnum defense rounds, Winchester Ranger T .357magnum. Some gunners put down frangibles & exotic rounds but for magnum revolvers, I feel they have merit.

  9. Which has more penetration power? .357 Magnum or .44 Magnum? -...

    thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=251071

The .357 Magnum has a 7.7% edge in velocity. The .44 Magnum has a 69.4% edge in mass. So, even though .44 Magnum in this case is saddled with 44% more frontal surface area, it's 57% greater momentum would likely give it significantly better penetration. So in top loads, .44 Magnum look like it'll win out.

  10. better all around revolver: .357 or .45 Colt? - The Firing Line

    thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=503744

The .45 Colt is a far "better all around revolver." It can far beyond anything you can do with a .357. It is twice as much gun with "Ruger only" loads. There is nothing the .357 can do better. But if you live in an area for self-defense and for deer size game max, then the .357 will work.

  11. 9mm+P+ vs. .357 Magnum - The Firing Line Forums

    thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=491376

The published ballistics for most 357 ammo is from 8" test barrels. Typical 357 mag velocities with 125 gr ammo from 4" barrels will be less than 1300 fps. My 4" G-19 chronographs +p Speer Gold Dots at 1250 fps. Start shooting 357's from 3" barrels and many 9mm loadings will equal or beat it without nearly as much recoil and blast.
