Greene County Courthouse, also known as Historic Greene County Courthouse, is a historic courthouse located at Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. It was built between 1910 and 1912, and is a four-story, Classical Revival style rusticated stone building. It has a flat roof and low dome over a rotunda.
The district encompasses seven contributing buildings on an 1860s farmstead. The contributing buildings are a two-story, brick I-house and brick smokehouse dated between 1863 and 1870; and a gambrel roof barn, two machine sheds, a garage, and a hen house dated to the early-20th century.
The Greeneville Historic District consists of an area a block in each direction of Main Street from McKee Street to Nelson Street, comprising an area of about 135 acres containing approximately 175 structures. [2] [3] Greeneville was established in 1783 around a spring, which is located almost in the heart of town.
The district includes parts of East Walnut Street, East Elm Street, East McDaniel Street, Cordova Court, South Hampton Avenue, South Florence Avenue, and South National Avenue. The district developed between about 1870 and 1940, with 21 buildings surviving from before 1900, and 59 buildings dating between 1901 and 1910. [2] [3] [4]
