The archive has extensive historical and current collections on popular song and popular music, in particular about 250,000 song documents, the core of which was collected in a collection campaign carried out in all German-speaking countries from 1912 to 1930. 3,000 documents alone date from the First World War period.
In East Germany, the same process did not begin until the mid-70s, where some folk musicians began incorporating revolutionary ideas in coded songs. Popular folk songs included emigration songs from the 19th century, work songs and songs of apprentices, as well as democracy-oriented folk songs collected in the 1950s by Wolfgang Steinitz.
Volkslied (literally: folk song) is a genre of popular songs in German which are traditionally sung. While many of them were first passed orally, several collections were published from the late 18th century. Later, some popular songs were also included in this classification. [1]

The most representative composer of Brazilian romanticism, Carlos Gomes (1836–1896) used several references from the country's folk music and traditional themes, chiefly in his opera Il Guarany (1870). Chiquinha Gonzaga Chiquinha Gonzaga (1847–1935) was a Brazilian composer, pianist, and the first woman conductor in Brazil.
