U.S. 75 Alternate (also signed as U.S. Highway 75A or State Highway 75A) is a 30.15-mile (48.52 km) highway near Tulsa. The southern terminus is at U.S. Highway 75 and SH-16 east of Beggs . The northern terminus is signed at State Highway 66 and State Highway 97 in Sapulpa .
U.S. Route 75 Alternate, the only such special route stemming from U.S. 75, is a former alignment of the mainline highway from east of Beggs to Sapulpa, Oklahoma, a suburb of Tulsa. The route is 30.15 miles (48.52 km) long. [1] [2] U.S. 75 Alternate is also sporadically signed as U.S. 75A and State Highway 75A.
The two highways serve as a major route through the town. US 62 leaves US 75 in Okmulgee. Coming out of Okmulgee, US 75 starts to enter a more urban area traveling into Tulsa. US 75 becomes a freeway in Glenpool, interchanging with the Creek Turnpike in Jenks. US 75 travels through western Tulsa before reaching an interchange at I-244.
The part of the original route from Beggs north to the city of Sapulpa, Oklahoma was re-designated, together with a connecting segment along SH 16 between new US 75 and Beggs, as Alternate US 75, also signed as US 75A or SH 75A. Historically, the old US 75 met US 66 (now SH 66) in Sapulpa, and the routes were co-signed into Tulsa.
At W. 61st Street S., the road crosses into Tulsa County. About one mile (1.6 km) north of the county line, SH-97 enters Prattville, a neighborhood of Sand Springs. [3] [5] At the north end of the town, the highway intersects SH-51 and begins a concurrency with it. The two routes cross the Arkansas River into the main part of Sand Springs together.
Four miles (6.4 km) east of Beggs, SH-16 intersects U.S. Route 75, a major national north/south highway and prominent in the area as a four-lane expressway connecting Tulsa and Okmulgee. [2] From there it runs due east, intersecting SH-52 near the community of Bald Hill.
