Southern Nantahala Wilderness (Chattahoochee NF in Georgia and Nantahala NF in North Carolina) Tray Mountain Wilderness; The Oconee National Forest today is spread over eight Georgia counties and is organized into one ranger district. The Oconee Ranger District maintains several hiking and other recreational trails in the forest.
The trail starts at Brasstown Bald and heads in a southernly direction along the boundary between Union and Towns counties. After 2.2 miles (3.5 km) and a descent of nearly 1,500 feet (460 m), it reaches Jacks Gap and crosses Georgia State Route 180. Shortly after reaching Jacks Gap, Jacks Knob Trail enters the Mark Trail Wilderness.

Rocky Knob is the last named peak in Georgia crossed by the Appalachian Trail. A peak called Rocky Knob is located east of Young Harris on Ramey Mountain with an elevation of 3,320 feet (1,010 m). [5] A 3,400-foot (1,000 m) peak called Rocky Knob is located less than one mile (1.6 km) south of the North Carolina state line on Spring Ridge. [6]
The summit falls within Cherokee County, although the majority of the mountain range trails into Bartow County including other peaks of Little Pine Log Mountain, Bear Mountain and Hanging Mountain. Pine Log and these other summits within its range are the last mountains over 2,000 feet (600 m) in the Appalachians of north Georgia.
Arkaquah Trail northern terminus at Brasstown Bald. The Arkaquah Trail is a hiking trail that has been designated as a National Recreation Trail in Georgia.The trail is 5.5 miles (8.25 km) long (not including the trail from the parking area to the summit and back) and is located in the Chattahoochee National Forest in the Brasstown Ranger District.
