The bell in the belfry was cast at John C. Wilson's bell foundry in Glasgow in 1864. [3] The building continued to serve as the meeting place of the burgh of Earlsferry until 1930, when it became the town hall of the enlarged burgh of Elie and Earlsferry. [5]
Principal photography on the film began in May 2016. The primary filming location was the village of Lochinver and the mountain Suilven in the Northern Scottish Highlands. Sheila Hancock completed the trek up the mountain herself, and claims to have been the oldest person to do so. [4] [5] [6] The film was completed in March 2017.
