It was originally made into an early silent film motion picture in 1908 in the Nickelodeon era and again 15 years later in another silent film but longer, more developed plot in the 1922 flick version as When Knighthood Was in Flower.
Writing fiction however remained an interest of Major, and fifteen years later at age 42, he published his first novel in 1896, When Knighthood Was in Flower under the pseudonym / pen name of Edwin Caskoden.
