TUI Airways has its origins in several rival airlines. Euravia (later renamed Britannia Airways in December 1964 [6]) was founded in January 1962. [7] Orion Airways, founded in 1979 by Horizon Holidays and later owned by the large brewing firm Bass Brewery and InterContinental Hotels Group, was sold and merged with Britannia Airways in 1989 but retained the Britannia name.
It was celebrated for the first time on 19 February 1880 as the Day of Emperor Alexander II's Ascension and the Conclusion of the San Stefano Peace Treaty. [4] It was officially designated as Liberation Day on its 10th anniversary in 1888 by the Principality of Bulgaria. [5] It was only in 1978 when it started to be celebrated on a national scale.

A year later, the first festive military parade was held on the occasion of the holiday. In 1953, 23 September was designated as the Day of the Bulgarian People's Army.
