Alnilam is the middle and brightest of the three stars of Orion's Belt. It is the 29th-brightest star in the sky (the fourth brightest in Orion) and is a blue supergiant . Together with Mintaka and Alnitak , the three stars make up Orion's Belt , known by many names across many ancient cultures.
Omicron 1 Orionis (ο 1 Ori) is a binary star [9] in the northeastern corner of the constellation Orion. It is visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 4.7. [4] Based upon an annual parallax shift of 5.01 ± 0.71 mas, it is located approximately 650 light years from the Sun.
The star C is the most massive of the four bright stars at the heart of the cluster. It is an O class blue main sequence star with a B-type main sequence companion. Its high luminosity and large distance (about 1,500 light years ) give it an apparent visible magnitude of 5.1.
Pi 3 Orionis (π 3 Orionis, abbreviated Pi 3 Ori, π 3 Ori), also named Tabit / ˈ t eɪ b ɪ t /, [10] [11] is a star in the equatorial constellation of Orion. At an apparent visual magnitude of 3.16, [2] it is readily visible to the naked eye and is the brightest star in the lion's hide (or shield) that Orion is holding.
The Trapezium or Orion Trapezium Cluster, also known by its Bayer designation of Theta 1 Orionis (θ 1 Orionis), is a tight open cluster of stars in the heart of the Orion Nebula, in the constellation of Orion. It was discovered by Galileo Galilei. On 4 February 1617 he sketched three of the stars (A, C and D), but missed the surrounding ...
The system is located at a distance of several hundred parsecs from the Sun and is one of the three main stars of Orion's Belt along with Alnilam and Mintaka. The primary star, Alnitak Aa, is a hot blue supergiant with an absolute magnitude of −6.0 and is the brightest class O star in the night sky with a visual magnitude of +2.0. It has two ...
Orion's Belt is an asterism in the constellation of Orion.Other names include the Belt of Orion, the Three Kings, and the Three Sisters. [1] The belt consists of three bright and easily identifiable collinear star systems – Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka – nearly equally spaced in a line, spanning an angular size of ~ 140′ (2.3°).
