Lorain County Community College was the first community college in Ohio to have a permanent campus, located at 1005 North Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio. [3] [4] The college was founded on July 15, 1963. Elyria (/ ə ˈ l ɪər i ə / ə-LEER-ee-ə [6]) is a city in, and the county seat of, Lorain County, Ohio, United States, located at the forks of the Black River in Northeast Ohio 23 miles (37 km) southwest of Cleveland. [7] As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 52,656. [8] It is a principal city in the Cleveland metropolitan area.
Six districts initially made up Lorain County JVS before it expanded to its current 13. In the 1980s, the curriculum expanded to include 23 programs, and after the technological boom in the 1990s, more opportunities arose while partnerships with area colleges provided college credits. A 2,400 sq. ft. greenhouse was eventually added as well.
