During the British colonial period in Malaya, Indians especially the Tamils from Southern India came to Malaya as migrant workers in rubber, tea, coffee and sugar plantations. Tamil education in Malaysia started when first Tamil primary school was established in Penang in 1816. This school was operational for few years.
The school is parent owned and parent governed. Every year a Board of Directors is elected by all parents (members of ISKL). Parents serve on the board for two years. The 2020–2023 Board [18] has 14 members, all parents of ISKL students. 13 members were elected in September 2020 for a three-year term and one is the US Embassy Appointee.
