The actual logic is contained in event-handler routines. These routines handle the events to which the main program will respond. For example, a single left-button mouse-click on a command button in a GUI program may trigger a routine that will open another window, save data to a database or exit the application.
Events trigger responses or actions and are fundamental to event-driven systems. These events can be handled synchronously, where the execution thread is blocked until the event handler completes its processing, or asynchronously, where the event is processed independently, often through an event loop.
The observer design pattern is a behavioural pattern listed among the 23 well-known "Gang of Four" design patterns that address recurring design challenges in order to design flexible and reusable object-oriented software, yielding objects that are easier to implement, change, test and reuse.
As an example, an event producer could be an email client, an E-commerce system, a monitoring agent or some type of physical sensor. Converting the data collected from such a diverse set of data sources to a single standardized form of data for evaluation is a significant task in the design and implementation of this first logical layer. A sample UML class and sequence diagram for the Command design pattern. [3]In the above UML class diagram, the Invoker class doesn't implement a request directly. Instead, Invoker refers to the Command interface to perform a request (command.execute()), which makes the Invoker independent of how the request is performed.

Interrupt handlers have a multitude of functions, which vary based on what triggered the interrupt and the speed at which the interrupt handler completes its task. For example, pressing a key on a computer keyboard, [1] or moving the mouse, triggers interrupts that call interrupt handlers which read the key, or the mouse's position, and copy ...
