Modern Family is an American television sitcom created by Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan. It aired on ABC from September 23, 2009, to April 8, 2020, for 11 seasons and 250 episodes. "Playdates" is the tenth episode of the seventh season of the American sitcom Modern Family. It aired on January 6, 2016 on American Broadcasting Company (ABC). The episode is directed by Claire Scanlon and written by Jeffrey Richman.
James Poniewozik of Time stated "Portrait" set out to do what some of Modern Family's best episodes have done, notably "Fizbo," in my opinion the show's best episode overall: it moves the characters toward one central event, setting in place the elements for both hilarious disaster and a moment of catharsis.
What Modern Family can do so well is create an escalating snowball of farce that, when everyone ends up in the same place, unleashes a storm of comic possibilities. This episode may not be the pinnacle of that style, but it unfolds with a sense of ease, confidence, economy, and generosity that any sitcom would be proud to match.
