Ryomen Sukuna (Japanese: 両面 宿儺, Hepburn: Ryōmen Sukuna) is a fictional character and one of the central antagonists of the manga and anime series Jujutsu Kaisen created by Gege Akutami. A Heian Era sorcerer, he was once known notoriously as the King of Curses and well known as the greatest Sorcerer to ever live.
Yuji ingests the finger and becomes Sukuna's host. Jujutsu master and teacher at the Tokyo school Satoru Gojo tells Yuji that he is intended for execution, but it is delayed so that the world can be rid of Sukuna when Yuji eat all of Sukuna's fingers. Yuji moves into the school and is mentored in Jujutsu personally by Satoru.
An unexpected "Special Grade" Cursed Spirit attacks them. Yuji stays back to buy time while Megumi rescues Nobara and escapes. Yuji's left hand is torn off by the spirit, so he unleashes Sukuna to fight. Sukuna swiftly kills the Special Grade, regenerates Yuji's hand, and reclaims one of his fingers that was powering the curse.
It has many references to the Heian period, known in the manga as the ‘Heian era’. In Jujutsu Kaisen, the Heian period was considered the peak of jujutsu sorcery, and many characters, such as the main antagonist, Ryomen Sukuna, and other characters including Kenjaku, Tengen, Yorozu, Uro Takako, The Angel and Uraume were born in the time period.
