Fort Scott is a city in and the county seat of Bourbon County, Kansas, United States. [1] As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 7,552. [3] [4] It is named for Gen. Winfield Scott. [5] The city is located 88 miles (142 km) south of Kansas City on the Marmaton River.
The average household size was 5.7 and the average family size was 6.4. [15] The percent of those with a bachelor’s degree or higher was estimated to be 3.1% of the population. [16] 27.1% of the population was under the age of 18, 11.5% from 18 to 24, 19.8% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 19.8% who were 65 years of age or older.
